Another update - I'm getting reports that Maximus and A4e are approaching possible subcontractors in Manchester. It seems unlikely that anybody would withdraw from Manchester, given its size, mostly urban composition, and lack of internal competition.

Another update - the source of the Tesco rumour may have been found. Matthew Lester from Papworth Trust has come forward to say that he's been using Tesco as an example of the kind of organisation that could get involved in contracts once the market's been opened up. It's possible that some of the organisations he's spoken with could have picked up the wrong end of the stick. To clarify, he has not at any point said that they were getting involved.

As a small, local New Deal subcontractor who has been hit by 2 Prime Contractors going into administration, can anyone recommend an organisation that isn't going to go bust in the next 5 years?

Oh dear. That doesn't sound like fun. Some of the major organisations are fairly secure - I can't see Serco going under anytime soon. It might be interesting to know what the DWP would offer subcontractors in the event of a prime being replaced mid-contract. Would their delivery be secure, or would the new prime have a free hand to chop and change contracts? Either way, delivery staff of subcontractors are included in TUPE.
