Policy Papers
Policy papers are drawn up by a policy working group and approved by the federal policy committee before being debated at the federal conference. Once approved (subject to any amendment) by conference they become party policy.
Federal policy covers those policy subjects within the responsibility of the UK government, and also policies for England. Policies on devolved matters for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are the responsibility of the Liberal Democrat parties in those areas.
Policy papers may propose changes to current levels of spending and taxation, however a fully costed manifesto will be publised near the time of the next election which will represent our commitments for the following Parliament.

For the People, By the PeopleSun, 12 Aug 2007Liberal Democrats want to re-engage people with Parliament and politics in the UK. We would engage UK citizens in creating a written constitution; we would create more opportuntities for active citizenship; we would restore the balance of freedom and power between the citizen and the state; we would modern political institutions to make them more responsive; and we would empower Parliament. |
