Blog Talk Radio - Twitter Apps discussed Friday June 13, 2008 starts 8pm PT with Coach Deb & Warren Whitlock
June 12th, 2008 · Filed Under: Blog Talk Radio · Chapter 3 · Coach Deb LIVE · How to Twitter · Twitter Apps · Twitter Handbook BOOK · Twitter Tips & Tools
We’ll be getting together again to write the Twitter Handbook LIVE with you, the Twitterverse.
Register for the Twebinar based portion of this broadcast & get Call-in Number emailed directly to you.
See below for additional registration details
Last month during the 1st TwitCast, we talked about “What’s the use of Twitter?” Including the following topics/conversations:
What is Twitter What are Hashtags How to use Summize.com How Twemes.com can be used Is Twitter really “more than just chat”? Can Twitter really useful for business? & so much more as the community got involved
We had such great participation from the Twitterverse, which made the 1st ever TwitCast a huge success!
Adam Des Autels & Roger Bauer took it to the next level, as Adam helped to reply back to questions and comments as he tracked the conversation on Twemes & then Roger created a great video after it was over explaining the apps we talked about so that you, the Twitter user could make use of the services for your business or personal use on Twitter.
Warren & I (CoachDeb) have a solid belief about the Twitter Handbook. And that is:
The community involvement is what will make the Twitter Handbook a far better published book than if he and I were to sit down and start typing on our own.
Ever since we each joined Twitter - we’ve both learned everything about Twitter - by using it and interacting with the community filled with brilliant minds and wonderful souls - all willing and eager to participate and help one another out - either in sharing the best resources, or by teaching one another whatever they need to know.
This week - we come together again - to talk about Twitter, what it is, and what types of Twitter apps there are that you can start using to enhance your Twitter experience.
We’ll be meeting slightly later than last time in order to accommodate those requests from the West Coast, and down under who couldn’t join us to participate.
Join us if you can participate LIVE! Here are the details of this Blog Talk Radio Show:

REMEMBER - whether you can join us LIVE or not - be sure to:
Add your favorite app in the comment box below so we can see which apps are most popular - and perhaps learn about new apps that the community is using and loving so others may learn how to enhance their Twitter experience.
Here’s a recap of how to use Hashtags & twemes which will be important once we begin the conversation announcing the hashtag we’ll use for this chapter of the Twitter Handbook.
Thank you Roger Bauer for creating a great video recap of the TwitCast held last month.

Hey, Deb!
I’m looking forward to your latest “TwitCast”!
I actually have two favourite tools…
The first is TwitterFox, which I just love because of it’s similarity to Twhirl but with less of an intrusive feel… at least, in my personal world. TwitterFox is a Firefox plugin that sits unobtrusively in the bottom corner of my browser, collecting and sorting my Twitter data while I am busy doing other things.
My second favourite Twitter App is called “TweetLater”, a very handy tool that helps automate my Twitter world. I can automatically accept followers, send a special message thanking them (or whatever I’d like to say to new followers)and even automatically follow them back! Another awesome feature of this tool is the ability to schedule future tweets… I can announce daily posts on my blog, ask thought-provoking questions, add funny quotes… whatever I like!
I have several others, but those two are the ones that help streamline my Twitter experience most, helping to remove those housekeeping tasks that are time-wasters, and reduce the stress that I might miss something interesting.
Cheers!

I still favor using OutTwit, an add-in for Outlook. I’m in Outlook all day and it just makes it easier for me to browse, post, and reply to Twitter posts.
Looking forward to the live show!

As a relative newbie on Twitter, I love twhirl. But look forward to hearing about and checking out other tools.
Thanks!

[...] Done? Hopefully now you get the general Idea. You might also be interested in “The Twitter handbook” , a work in progress by “Coach Deb”, “Bookwarren” and a cast of thousands - the book is open to contribution from any members of the Twitter Community. At first I must admit to being somewhat sceptical about this (I mean - It’s Twitter: Create an account, post, follow people, repeat - you need a book for that?), but after more looking into this project and some great conversation with “Da Coach”, I can see how this could become a huge hit. (UPDATE: If you want more information on the Twittersphere, or the Twitter handbook - be sure to tune into the Twitcast this upcoming Friday evening More information on the official Twitter handbook Blog) [...]

I couldn’t live without http://summize.com - I use it daily to find missed @replies as well as variations of my name and keywords.
But today I just discovered http://tweetbeep.com and will be using that for alerts - it’s exactly like Google Alerts. w00t!!
Also, http://tweetlater.com is excellent for the auto-following people back feature.

Hey @CoachDeb! I take my Twitter straight, generally - although do monitor activity in my peripheral vision via the People sidebar in Flock. Just this week, I’ve indulged in a TwitPic or two… Interestingly? I have noticed my coffee intake has decreased with my uptake in Twitter useage - one drug replaces the other, eh ;o)?
June 13th, 2008 at 8:44 am
Twitterberry so I can twitter from my cellphone
Twitterbar so I can twitter from my browser
TweetLater so I can welcome new followers
And although not an app… Flock so I can see the tweet timeline while I am browsing.

What are my favorite apps? Well, I like golden delicious, granny smith, and gravensteins. But my favorite is fugi!
Oh, did you mean Twitter apps? Er, um, lemmie see… I don’t like any of ‘em. Ya know why? Cuz the more apps I add, the more time I spend on Twitter.
I’m twying to find a Twitaholics Anonomous to cure my addiction. I can’t twake it any more! I’m going to lose my twanity soon if I can’t find a Twink to help me with my twoblem soon.

The omnipresent Ping.fm (though not exclusively a Twitter ap) gets my vote, and I was recently introduced to tweetbeep.com by @marismith, and I LOVE IT! Other than that, I take my Twitter straight like Julie.

Hi Deb & Warren,
It’s about 20 minutes into the Webinar and after learning that you wanted our favorites Twitter tools (apps)here on the blog.
As I’m typing this Deb is talking about giving credit where credit is due and I agree with that so Danny Sullivan gets credit for sharing my second tool. The first tool I found on Google as I looked for Twitter Alerts.
http://www.TweetBeep.com/ <<– Like Google Alerts - Sends eMail for your keywords.
http://www.TwitterCounter.com/ <<– Like Feedburner Reader Count Chicklet - Shows your number of followers.
CoachDeb has 2,541 followers!
BookWarren has 2,322 followers!

Twitter Packs - Wiki to follow new people & add yourself by category/geography.

Tweet Beeps - Like Google Alerts for Twitter, powered by Summize

Hey Guys,
Unfortunately I don’t think the time difference will allow me to join you live- I left my days of all night surfing behind some time ago.
As far as favourite apps go, well - I’m still fairly reserved in my use of Twitter- however I couldn’t live without twitteriffic for Mac OS. It sits quietly in the corner leaving me to work in peace and displays a friendly unobtrusive Growl notification when someone tweets: I don’t have to manually go and read the timeline (procrastination) because I know I’ll get the info from my followees and @ replies.
My second favourite application doesn’t exist just yet, but when it does it’s gonna rawk! Daily Twitter should allow me to set up a custom ‘news page’ where I can subscribe to a number of topics and lay them out in a pleasing and eyecatching manner. (At least, I hope that’s the intention)
Anything that reduces the time I spend looking for information when I should be working is soo important because I’m the sort of person who gets side-tracked *very* easily.
Well, have fun with the twebinar and best regards,
Stuart.

I just learned how to use twitter bar… (FireFox or Flock browser add-on).
I knew that I could just hit the little green + sign and it would twit what I was reading now… but…….
I did not know I could add a comment in the browser bar and it would add that to my twit along with the url.
Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy.

I just learned about the new Twellow.com, ‘WebProNews’s Twitter people search and directory platform, a yellow pages for Twitter’. I think this will be a great resource for all Twitter users to find people on Twitter they have something in common with based on niche. It looks like it could become the Twitter search engine. It also lists users by Twitter id and by most followers. Hopefully they will add more search options for finding people too!

I just copy/pasted all the above tips to include them in the published TWitter HAndbook for others to enjoy.
Thanks for sharing your expertise, brilliance & tips on using your favorite apps!
Those of you visiting after this post - we invite you to share additional new apps not listed above, as we’ve invited readers of the published book, “Twitter Handbook” to come to this page to see what else has been added since publication release of the printed book.
Thanks again!

With the recent outages of Twitter and especially the loss of people from my community last week when Twitter had a problem, I think it’s really important to have details of the people that we really do want in our closest circle, or Tribe as @coachdeb describes them as, in alternative formats so that I can protect myself against loss of my data base.
One thing I have done recently is create a duplicate list of the people I REALLY want to follow in my FriendFeed account.
You can read about it here is you would like more infomation - it’s an article where I talk about three key FriendFeed features:
