Who Will Get the Shower Curtains (If They Haven’t Been Sold)?
The second wife of Dennis Kozlowski — whose Tyco-funded $2 million 40th birthday bash on Sardinia became Exhibit A in the criminal case against her husband — has filed for divorce from the imprisoned former CEO. And she wants a Florida court to protect her half of their Boca Raton estate. Here’s the story from the Palm Beach Post.
Denis Kozlowski, 59 years old, is serving an 8 1/3-to-25 year sentence at the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy, N.Y. In recent months, he’s been trying to sell assets — a Nantucket estate, a Beaver Creek condo, a Renoir, a Monet — to raise money to pay $167 million in court-ordered fines and restitution due next month. He’s appealing his conviction.
But as part of her divorce papers, Karen Kozlowski has petitioned the Florida court for “an equitable lien” on their Florida home, presumably to protect her alleged share. Investigators in the Tyco case said Kozlowski used a $19 million, interest-free loan from Tyco to buy the Intracoastal manse. The Post couldn’t reach either Karen Kozlowski or her lawyers for comment.
Update: Here’s the divorce petition, and the notice of lis pendens.
A guy can’t count on throwing $2 million dollar birthday party to insure a wife’s loyalty anymore. I noticed that in her petition she asserted a right to all the trinkets that Dennis Kozlowski bought her.
Karen Kozlowski deserves nothing. The woman who had a Tyco funded $2 million birthday and lived in the homes purchased by her looting husband has already been unjustly at the expense of shareholders. I hope the Manhattan DA or the lawyers representing shareholders or employees in the class action lawsuits have the sense to intervene and object.
